Harper® began in 1899, when Alphonso K. “A.K.” Harper saw his mother struggling with her daily household chores of scrubbing floors and cleaning surfaces. He was inspired to created his first five-piece combination brush kit, hand crafted from horse hair. Since then the Harper® product line has expanded to brooms, mops, buckets, dustpans, and squeegees.
The shift towards manufacturing more items began in 1925 when Harper® Brush Works started making industrial cleaning tools as well as household products. The goal of this expansion was to create a number of durable and hardworking tools to suit a variety of specialized cleaning applications. Since then, Harper’s pursuit to create tough, long-lasting and purpose-built products has not stopped.
In 2017 Harper® became part of the Ames family of brands.
